Current Projects

My work at UH Manoa

I work with scientists in the Oceanography department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa on various projects. My specialty is instrumentation development, testing, deployment, and training. This mainly involves embedded electronics and software development.

Typically on a given project, I focus on the engineering while my colleagues focus on the sciences (and the funding!), be it marine bio, geo chem, or physical oceanography. I get the scientific goals from the researchers, work out the engineering requirements, provide and evaluate options for potential solutions, then implement, deploy, and maintain base on the resources available. This "separation of concerns" gives me great freedom in technical directions. It's a unique situation, and I think the setup works well overall.
